A while back, I saw this interesting photo on social media about the iceberg illusion and that is something that we all do, not only as polers but as humans in our lives. Sometimes we find ourselves mesmerizing on other people’s Instagram or Facebook pages and we just want it so badly…
But achieving something extraordinary, no matter the field, requires a lot of hardwork and determination; and yes we should applaud the results but we also need to let the logic in because those beautiful moves are the result of a lot of failed attempts and man! don’t we fail? We put our body through some strenuous processes of pain and even injuries; and for me, there is a sublime beauty in celebrating that process of achieving and hard work; because when the dreaming stops and the reality sinks in, people then realise what it actually takes to do this or that move or to get to that level.
So today, I want us to celebrate the process and our small personal victories. I know that someday this beautiful sport will receive the respect and recognition it deserves but for the time being none of that matters, because we will carry on pushing the boundaries, dreaming, committing and achieving and that is something that nobody can take away from us.
If you want it, you can do it; all you have to do is work hard for it.
